  2. This short movie is based on the story "the glove" from Friedrich Schiller and was directed by Henning Backhaus, who also made the nice piano music. It was shot on 16mm Kodak-stock Vision2 200T.

    About the film:
Imagine a winter day, when you are together with the boy you like. Then, another girl comes to spoil your enjoyment of this precious moment. The acting based on delicate gestures well expresses the fragility of the youth and arouse nostalgia.

  3. This is our psychadellic opus. 30 minutes of experimental 16mm, hand-processed, black & white goodness. Scale this to 100%, turn up the sound, turn down the lights and get comfy.

My pal David and I started riding cross country on our motor-bikes chasing down UFO's and American road-mythology. The result is this film. It was our college thesis project and got good play at the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival and the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. We had always planned to make a new one but somehow we split ways in Alaska.

I'm really glad to get this one out into the open after all these years. I like checking in every once in a while to see how much my film style has evolved since those heady art-school days. In a big way, this trip & film combo was directly responsible for my eventual life in AK, and my first contact with environmental and native issues that persist with me in all of my current work. It's a trip. Enjoy!

  5. The dark and beautiful 16mm film images of Alex Haspel (dop) visualize perfectly the irritatingly uneasy atmosphere that floats through the Starpilots song "Heat", making it the cold antipod to the classic summer hit: cover me!
This video was inspired by the short film "Verzweigungen", directed by Lukas Feigelfeld and cinematographed by Alex Haspel. The face and expression of actress Alexandra Nutz just perfectly tranports the innocent human approach to evil. "Heat" is the second release from the album "population" by the Viennese band starpilots (starpilots.net).

directed & edited by: Gernot Grassl
    camera: Alex Haspel (alex.haspel.at/)
    Produced: 2007/01/01
    Duration: 3 hours 59 minutes 0 seconds

    Voice: Gernot Grassl
    Guitar: Horst Rüger
    Bass: Tom Schauppenlehner

    Heat - lyrics
is it getting warmer in here
is there something in the air
is the air-con gone or the heating on
shall we call someone to get things done?
    can you smell the atmosphere?
    cover me...

taken by surprise - i close my eyes
    in a massive sweat attack
my face gets showered in a heatwave.

is it a new taste of the same old fear?
a virus-kind freak surfing through our world-wide minds
do you also have a strange taste on your lips
an unknown pain in your fingertips?
And is it only my throat - getting dryer
    they´re coming in cloak
    cover me...

    chased by a frequent sound
    drowned in defeaning silence
    in a massive sweat attack
my face gets showered in a heatwave.

and when i close my eyes
    my whole life passes by
    like in super-slomo
it passes by, inside my eyes

    cover me, cover me…
