1. Still Life: Eviction was premiered at the 2013 Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (Daejeon, Korea Republic), in May, 2013. This work represents the first solo t-stick composition in a series of pieces that will feature the “tracking” of stage position and posture via an integration of motion sensing technology (XBOX kinect) and the t-stick. The terminology “still life” refers to my interest in visual and performance art works whose subject is the inanimate everyday object. However, my composition is primarily inspired by the depiction of still life in the large format, backlit, photography of Canadian photographer, Jeff Wall. In particular, the development of my work was inspired by Wall’s (1988) photo, entitled “An Eviction”. In this example, tension in the photograph concerns a vision of ephemerality captured by the artist.

  2. During their visit to Lethbridge, the percussion and violoncello duo, Fernando Rocha and Elise Pittenger, performed live electronic music from composers Sergio Freire, Gerard Gastinel, Roberto Victorio, Fernando Rocha, Matthew Burtner, Sean Griffin, Kaija Saariaho, as well as performing the world premiere of a new composition from João Pedro Oliveira. The t-stick instrumentalist, D. Andrew Stewart, also presented solo t-stick music and joined the duo for a performance-improvisation in an unusual combination of acoustic and digital-electronic instruments.

  4. This is a second video of composer/performer D. Andrew Stewart playing his composition "Everybody to the power of one" on a soprano T-Stick, which he calls the "sonar jo," at the 2009 International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) in Montréal. The T-Stick is a digital musical instrument I designed and built in the Input Devices and Music Interaction Lab at McGill University. Andrew was a collaborator on the T-Stick project, along with percussionist Fernando Rocha, pianist Xenia Pestova and cellist Erika Donald.
