  2. Winner of "Best Time-Lapse" at Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards - laiffawards.com/may-winner.html

The sun rises and covers the landscape in a soft pink light. The rugged cliffs cast a long shadow. Winter has the island under control. The snowy mountains tower above the frozen fjords. The streets are empty and just a few tourists are en route. The sun is shining. The turquoise water is glittering in the sun. The day is marked by unpredictable weather changes. Quick rages the snow and the sea is stirred up by the storm. The fishing boats cross the rough sea to catch some codfish, while the already gutted fish hanging to dry on the stockfish racks and wrap the island into a fishy smell. In the evening the island comes to rest. The fishing boats return to the port. The small towns, with the famous red Rorbuers are brightly lit and tranquility settles in. The sun sets and the sky turns into a dark blue. As night falls in Lofoten, the sky comes to life and you will experience an exceptional spectacle of nature that is hard to put into words. The Northern Lights flicker across the sky and cover the landscape in a green light. For hours they dance in the sky before the sun finds its way over the horizon. A new winter day starts in Lofoten.

In March this year I spent a week in Lofoten. I knew the islands already from a previous visit in the summer, however, I wanted to go on Aurora hunting this time. The weather and solar activity play a decisive role, so that a reliable forecast isn’t possible. Everything was more than uncertain and the unpredictable weather changes were the biggest challenge but I was lucky during my visit. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, I was able to experience one of the most impressive natural phenomena.
    Thanks Lofoten, I'll be back!

  3. This summer, two friends and myself all left our comfortable jobs of six years to spend two months traveling across the country and teaching photography workshops along the way. We all felt that it was time to take a risk and get out of our comfort zones... adventure was calling us. It was a trip filled with endless hours cooped up in a van, exploring breathtaking landscapes, sharing stories and laughs, meeting some of the nicest people, making new friends, getting to meet old friends from around the country, and sharing our love of photography with others.

This trip was a constant test for me, as we had such short and limited time in nearly all of the spots we visited. In most cases, I'd have to hurry out of the van with all of my gear and find a decent composition in a very short amount of time as soon as we would arrive at the location. It was a constant race against the light.

During those 2 months, we traveled across 32 states , visited 13 national and state parks, and drove nearly 13,000 miles in a (somewhat) trusty old Dodge Caravan... with no cruise control. It was an adventure that gave us many memories that we will all hold onto for many years to come. I think that everybody needs to take a trip and have their eyes opened to just how beautiful this world is and how much is really out there.

A big thanks to Coca-Cola and Flickr for helping to sponsor our trip. Thanks also to everyone else that donated, attended our workshops, and gave us places to stay!

  4. Take another trip around the U.S. and parts of Canada through my eyes, with Adventure Is Calling II.

I was fortunate enough to spend several months this past summer traveling around the U.S. and parts of Canada, teaching workshops and shooting timelapse along the way. Since the trip was so similar to the year before, I thought it was fitting to dub this video as a sequel to Adventure Is Calling. This trip spanned just shy of 4 months, covered around 14,000 miles and led to this film, composed of nearly 20,000 still images.

It was so great getting so much feedback on the last video about how it inspired so many to get out, travel, and spend more nights under the stars. I hope this video will revamp those desires.

Special thanks to Arn Andersson for making an extended version of his song The Truth Beyond for me to use for this video. arnandersson.com

  5. There are some things in this world that everyone deserves to experience with their own eyes. I headed to Alaska in February with the hope of catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights with mine. That glimpse turned into an extravaganza...a party in the sky, and I was an onlooker, a face in the crowd...awestruck, mesmerized, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. Night after night I was captivated by bright and colorful lights dancing wistfully above me; a graceful representation of the light in my soul. These were enchanted nights like I've never experienced. And while my camera captured a play-by-play of the spectacle, I could be found dog sledding through snow-covered forests, relaxing by the fire in a toasty cabin, or simply laying down in the snow and drifting into the dance.

This was the most amazing trip of my life so far...and here it is, summarized in under 3 minutes. This is my first time time lapse film, so it means a lot that you're here, reading this, stepping into a very special piece of my past.
    Thank you. x
