Somewhere in the old Jewish cemetery in Basatin (Cairo), a Violin is etched upon a gravestone. Felix was 9 years old when he saw Egypt’s most celebrated musicians lined-up beside the burial mound of his brother Farag - the most sought for violinist in Cairo at the time. Today, a violinist himself, Felix is searching for his brother's recordings. He wants to learn the style and character of his brother’s violin solos (“Taqasim”).
Taqasim is a voyage to the hidden treasures of classical Arabic music. With stylishly shot music segments, along with unforgettable “back-ally” jam sessions, Taqasim explores a different kind of classical music – beautiful and sophisticated as the Western classical music, yet hardly appreciated as such.
