1. This was an experiment to see if I could get better color results out of a Canon XL-H1. I always thought that the EX-1 had better color depth and richness...I wanted to try to emulate that (very little color correction was done in post, but vignette added).

After seeing some of Steven Dempsey's work on Vimeo and reading his comments, I decided I needed to make in-camera adjustments (instead of in post) to see if I could get a richer, wider, more saturated color result.

I also decided to zoom the lens out pretty far and run the lens wide open to limit the DOF. I wanted to see how much I could limit the DOF without a DOF adapter (I am very much impressed w/ Philip Bloom's work on this site.)

As for the actual filming... I am not that familiar with the focus sensitivity of the XL-h1. Add an unpredictable 2 year old and it's tough to keep a shallow DOF on a long lens while running it wide open. Especially using a viewfinder with no monitor. I'm adding a monitor to this set-up for future work.
