This excerpt shows one of the best chase scenes I know of. I am glad to put it in digital form (some 40+ years after it's U.S. release) for others to see. I happened to see it years ago, and never forgot the terror so well depicted of being hunted and literally "running for your life" through a cornfield. The point-of-view technique and sense of disorientation were unforgettable to me as a filmmaker and someone who hopes I never even dream such a nightmare, let alone live it. And yes, I believe it does depict an actual event during World War II. There is some foreign language (Yugoslavia) text at the beginning of the film indicating that, or so I believe. Sorry that I am not at liberty to post more than an excerpt!
P.S. This was originally a full-color film but dyes sometimes fade, and at different rates--in this case leaving a magenta tint to the whole image. Out of curiosity, I tried some color correction measures, but this one was a done deal. The only thing I liked better was to mainly de-saturate the image, which I did only to the "enhanced" version that also appears here on Vimeo.
P.P.S. This is also a good example of a video requiring a higher than normal bit-rate since each frame of film (transferred frame-by-frame to video) is very different from the previous or next frame due to the fast motion of camera, subject, foreground (corn), and background (more corn!).
