Realizada el día 26 de octubre en el Auditorio David Viñas del Museo del Libro y de la Lengua de la Biblioteca Nacional.
National study reveals that citizens appreciate libraries’ role in promoting equal access to information, fostering interest in literature, and advancing lifelong learning and democracy.
Sami Serola, Lecturer in School of Information Sciences University of Tampere, tells more.
To promote books, reading, and the stimulation of creativity through copyright - this is why we celebrate World Book and Copyright Day today and every year on 23 April. In her video message, IFLA President Ingrid Parent addresses the importance of books as irreplaceable sources of knowledge, ideas and innovation. “In books we find the wealth and wisdom of the world”, Parent said.
11 April: At a stakeholder hearing in the European Parliament today Stuart Hamilton, IFLA's Director of Policy & Advocacy, raised severe concerns about the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). Libraries are concerned that the non-transparent ACTA negotiations pose a threat to the balance of copyright, Hamilton stressed in his video message. ACTA's objectives and methods endanger the balance of copyright, and seriously conflict with the library community's commitments to equitable access to information and cultural expression.
It is expected that their decision about ACTA will be taken in July.
IFLA President Ingrid Parent made a brief two day visit to Finland to see the preparations surrounding the upcoming IFLA 2012 World Library and Information Congress. She also gave a presentation at a seminar held at the University of Helsinki. Afterwards she attended a press event held at the University of Helsinki’s “Think Corner ”, which is part of this year’s World Design Capital program of events in Helsinki, Finland. She also spoke with Kirjastokaista about some of her previous work and what she aims to promote as IFLA President.
