A song from The Gary is a long crescendo - building and building until a catharsis is reached.
They write moody, cinematic music - the kind you hear in your head when you're in your car leaving town for good. No, that's too esoteric of a description. The Gary play songs that are undeniably masculine yet also vulnerable and afraid. They play songs that hypnotize.
I'm at a loss as to how to describe Bobby Jealousy except to say that their music is recognizably essential. What I do know is that it was genuinely thrilling to shoot this band.
I knew that I was witnessing and documenting something special. I knew it because every time they played "Take You On," I had to choke back a few tears. Granted, this may have been a reaction unique to me but there is no doubt in my mind that Bobby Jealousy is my new favorite band.
