Yonkers Public Schools shows its “true colors” on Wednesday, October 10th by donning orange and incorporating anti-bullying lessons, projects and speakers into school-day study. The district-wide initiative supports “Unity Day,” a national event sponsored by PACER’S National Bullying Prevention Center, which invites schools and communities throughout the country to unite for one day in the stance against bullying.
During Unity Day, teachers at School 17 will introduce team-building projects, like designing a class mural, and character development lessons, including taking a pledge against bullying. Classroom reading will also engage students in round-table discussions about what bullying is and what can be done to prevent inappropriate treatment of fellow students and staff.
Unity Day is part of the District’s ongoing anti-bullying campaign, which infuses bullying awareness and prevention programs into curriculum throughout the school year.
