I was told by the yacht crew that when a whale comes up to check you out it is called being mugged.
This is off the coast of The Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Southern Humpback Whales that in the 60's and 70's were slaughtered back to a population of only 200 before the whaling stations in Australia went broke. It has taken 30 years to get the population back to approx 12,000. Every winter they pass our coast on their way north to mate.
This day we saw 2 male humpback whales showing off to a female about 5 miles away from us.
