This brilliantly produced one-hour documentary is the definitive time capsule of Sept. 11. Woven from video and still photography provided by 188 witnesses, most of them ordinary citizens, as well as the reporting of 16 news organizations, the team assembled by HBO uses Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s recollections as the narrative spine of the story. The musical score is stirring, drawn solely from compositions by prominent American composers and performed by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The video editing is spectacular. In every way, this program is compact, disciplined and overwhelmingly emotional.

Sheila Nevins, Brad Grey, John Hoffman, producers; Lisa Heller, senior producer; Dylan McGee, supervising producer; Paula Heredia, editor; Peter Kunhardt, Jonathan Liebman, executive producers.
