2013 is nearly gone, so I thought I look back upon the year and would share with you some of my favorite images and timelapses, set to one of my favorite songs, by two of my favorite producers - "Out of Order" by Matthew Dekay and Lee Burridge on the impeccable Voltaire Music.
2013 marked my first year as a full-time professional photographer and timelapse cinematographer / educator. The journey has been incredible, and I can't thank my wife, my family, my friends, and all my customers and clients enough for all their support.
Cordova and the Chugach Mountains, AK
Death Valley, CA
Summit of Mt. Whitney, CA
Halawa Valley, Moloka`i

Beginners guide for your first night out shooting stars. Or, at least, this is how I do it.
I made this video to give a visual reference to the various tips, techniques, and lessons that you will want to know if you want to go out and try shooting stars.
There are many more techniques, and much more to learn and know, but that will be saved for future tutorials.
Please let me know what you think, if this helped, or what you still want to know about. Leave comments below, or you can email me your ideas and reactions to Ben@theStarTrail.com

I got a last minute invite from Chip McAlpine to join him on his photo trip to Crater Lake National Park to shoot stars.
This was certainly a demanding trip in all aspects: before/during/after, financially, and relationships. But, damn, the results are one of my favorite so far from the years I've been shooting stars.
The timelapse motion in the video is made possible by using the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero dolly system. For more information about them visit:

A timelapse video of Saturday evening, shot from a hillside on the Western edge of the Black Rock playa.
After the last rays of the sun paint the top of Old Razorback, night falls, and the timelapse shows the Man burning. Watch for the red flare just before the burn fireworks start. After the burn, I switched lenses to show a wider view of Black Rock City and this shot went until just before 4am when my batteries ran out.
Thanks to my wife Kirsten for her patience and willingness to watch the end of her sixth Burning Man from outside the trash fence.
Music is "Big BW" by Aotearoa's Fat Freddy's Drop. Thanks to the team of Kiwis for this year's magnificent Temple of Transition.# vimeo.com/28801666 Uploaded 68.6K Plays 424 Likes 26 Comments
