Rachel is joining Elite for her first season this year and has come into the club with a fantastic skill set in every fundamental skill. Specilizing in setting always takes extra time and lots of extra reps and Rachel gets her season underway she has already established herself as one of the better if not best 14Elite setter to ever come into the Elite club. It's rare at this age to see setters get their entire hand and every finger on the ball when they make contact but Rachel pulls it off almost every time. Now as we work on fine tuning the other important details we look towards our top setters and follow their lead. Number one priority right now for Rachel since she has already established such a great natural contact and release is squaring up. We need to see hips and shoulders, and more often than not feet squared up to that outside hitter so we establish one consistent contact spot and angle of release to bring consistency to location and insure that we are not giving away the location to opposing teams before the ball is in flight.
Our Elite details remain the same,
Footwork - are we maintaining a base inside shoulder width and somewhere around toe to arch
Squaring up - are we getting feet, hips and shoulders around the off ball to put the front of our right shoulder on the antennae BEFORE we make contact with the ball
Draw - are we bringing our hands up simultaneously spaced on the ball, meaning are they positionally ready to contact the ball or are the hands outside of the actual size of the ball or inside the actual size of the ball
Contact - are we getting all five fingers on the ball with equal spacing between our pointer fingers and thumbs, or are the thumbs or pointers opening up right before contact and effecting our perfectly equal contact and release
Release - do both hands look the same on the release and are we getting equal follow through with both arms and hands
Finish - are we keeping hands up and on the path we are trying to establish for the ball, and do we bring our hands back to us or is the follow through going over the top of the ball and dragging the ball down
