If you have a tattoo you know the very personal connection between experiences and emotions to the ink forever within the skin. These markings often tell others, as well as ourselves, something about the world which we have perceived.

Recently I have discontinued communication with my father. I intended for this to be permanent. That was until I was pointed to a book describing, in perfect detail, my childhood. Suddenly I became a textbook example. But more importantly – I became normal.
Up until today, being the child of a father with symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder has dictated every part of my being.
This 60-second video is composed of photos scanned in by my mother from photo albums at home. She specifically chose photos without my father in them, which isn’t really a difficult task – he wasn’t often around, caught up in his own life.
The photos are synced to the frequency of my speech. And when I quote the writings of my youth the frame goes black – moments that were never captured on film.
I leave the viewer with one of the first and last images my father and I had together, an image I so deeply desire but also the hope I have locked away.
