book: Joel Bakan - "The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power"
Directed by: Mark Achbar, Jennifer Abbott
Since the late 18th century American legal decision that the business corporation organizational model is legally a person, it has become a dominant economic, political and social force around the globe. This film takes an in-depth psychological examination of the organization model through various case studies. What the study illustrates is that in the its behaviour, this type of "person" typically acts like a dangerously destructive psychopath without conscience. Furthermore, we see the profound threat this psychopath has for our world and our future, but also how the people with courage, intelligence and determination can do to stop it. For centuries, Buddhism was practiced in near isolation in the rugged mountain country of Tibet. While western civilization focused on the development of material technology, Tibetan culture concentrated on the development of ‘spiritual technologies,’ mind techniques for mapping the route to the highest spiritual attainment. Then, in 1959, with the Chinese invasion, everything changed. Now, fifty years later, there are Tibetan Buddhist meditation centers in every major city in the western world, two three-year retreat centers in France alone, and the Dalai Lama has 92,000 followers on Twitter.
