1. So this happened
I've had many opportunities to see many amazing things from some pretty spectacular locations.
The thing is there are still a lot of places that I haven't been yet. I can however finally scratch High Rock Lookout off that list. This is a pace I have been trying to get to for ten years now. Every time I tried something came up, the weather shifted or I couldn't find the trailhead.
This trip was one of those where the weather seemed to be shifting. However, I had enough understanding of the weather patterns to know that the cloud deck I was driving under had a relatively low ceiling. And that meant I was in for a night above the clouds.
If you have never had the chance to stand on top of the clouds, put it on your list. Most of us have been in an airplane flying above the clouds, but that experience does not compare to actually standing with a layer of clouds just below your feet.
It is one of the most tranquil and spectacular sights a person could see.
All of this was shot in one over night trip with two cameras.

  3. 'Mainland New Zealand' is a compilation of some stunning landscape scenes showcasing the South Island's natural and unspoiled beauty. In this short movie, you will see the pristine aqua-coloured waters and the moody skies of Fiordland, stormy clouds near Mount Cook, and some oddly shaped granite boulders in the Te Anau Basin. The vivid autumn tones and backcountry dams of Central Otago also feature along with a rare and colourful display of the Auroroa Australis. By the way, if you weren't already aware, the term 'Mainland' is a South Islanders' name for the South Island of New Zealand.

This production took six months with some 6000 kilometers traveled over 5 weeks during April and May of 2015. Over 30 clips come together in this 4 minute movie with beautifully matched music that evokes majestic grandeur and drama to the captured scene.

Mainland New Zealand has used the latest advanced multi-axis, motion-controlled time lapse gadgets, rails, an auto exposure ramping device, and a focus puller just to make this production that little more dynamic. A 'Behind the Scenes' movie can be seen here: youtu.be/xP7tWJdOHtc

  5. This is a video love letter to Moab, Utah and surrounding area to show my appreciation for how much I love the beauty of her landscapes and the dark skies above.

I first visited Moab on a cross country trip with my parents in 1977. I have to admit that back then I had no idea where we were when we were driving by these red rock formations. However, in 1994 I rediscovered Moab and instantly fell in love with this incredible small town, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. I knew I had been there before, and it just felt like home to me. I feel privileged to feel at home in a place as vast and beautiful as Moab. It has been 37 years since my parents first took the family to Arches and Canyonlands, but since rediscovering it as an adult I have been back there 7 times, 5 in the last 3 years, with more trips to come in 2015.

This short video was edited to a song that feels like a love letter to this beautiful area. The music, the arrangement, and the lyrics is how I feel when I sit under the dark skies or wander through the red rock canyons and arches. It's trans-formative. It takes you away from the stresses of every day life and truly puts you in touch with nature.

I also lead night-sky timelapse workshops in Moab, so please visit timelapsemoab.com for more information on the next workshop.
