1. 'trees' is short art film based on my previous installation Cataclysm (2012) - see my other videos - originally developed with a live accompanied score, and varying in time depending on performance/site specificity.

It re-uses 'found' 35mm print stock footage, memories embalmed in chemicals, and stored in bits, that, like my collages using old National Geographic magazines, employs an idea of recycling to produce new work, at the same time, celebrating a use of light and process that has since been replaced by the digital. The quality itself suggestive of times past, of fading light, of fading memory. The process of researching, re-discovering, re-editing and re-evaluating is itself a way of memorialising; at once a creation of new memory, and at once a statement of method.

Cataclysm (2012) represents the death of film, the erasing of memory, the realisation of a destructive process, and the end of days.

'trees' more explicitly tates the intentions behind the work by adding sound and voice. The voice here is Joseph Stiglitz from a series available on Community Audio entitled 'Globalization and the environment'.

I have uploaded this without audio under a BY-NC-SA license which will allow anyone to download and re-use with attribution. I would be very interested in anyone creating a score for it. Please contact me if you would like to do this.

  3. "Content is Queen" is a video art series of generative portraits that reflects on the foundations of democracy and the resilient nature of the structures of power. At the same time, it is a paradoxical dialogue and strange marriage between the banal and the utterly majestic: to create the series, the most popular (in a truly democratic sense) internet videos of a given moment are used as the input of a generative process that "paints" with action the portrait of the Queen.

On a technical level, this piece is a result of my research in breaking the limitations of the static image in a contemporary revision of the tradition of painting. The portraits are created using an innovative generative technique that I have developed called "generative video painting". It differs from previous attempts of video collage (like the techniques developed by David Hockney, mixing simultaneous points of view of an action) or video mosaic (where still images are represented by whole videos acting as pixels when properly reduced in size). My technique uses regions of video content to effectively represent or "paint" heterogeneous regions of the image. Both the partial content of the videos and the whole image are fully visible at the same time, widening the possibilities to deliver meaning in a contemporary aesthetic language.

To better experience this piece as a painting, there is no sound. See it full screen to enjoy details.

The generative process is implemented using Processing (processing.org).

Many thanks to Andres Colubri (GSVideo library) and the whole Processing community.

  5. Ghosts is a film made without a camera. It is the re-imagining of a 1920s home movie, one that is deteriorating over time due to its nitrate based film-stock. The film and audio are created from found 'objects'; debris scattered digitally across the internet, data literally in bits. I have structured the film to create an idea, that of Ghosts, whereby images and sounds are kept alive in the realm of the internet, the undead, reanimated and given a voice. All sounds 'borrowed' to create the S/T are open source CC license SA. The video also. Thus, in turn, Ghosts carries the CC: NC-BY-SA license. Please respect the GNU!

**NOTE: It is best to hear the audio track through a decent sound system. Low frequency noises may damage smaller speaker systems**
