1. This is an artists' book designed and imaged by Phil Zimmermann with text by León de la Rosa. This book is about life during the early years of the 21st century on the Mexican side of the US border. This is the time of the narco-criminals that have caused at least 50,000 deaths since 2000. The word ojalá, derived from the moorish-arabic word ‘inshallah’, means if God wishes it so, but 'ojalá' in modern vernacular is a more wistful ‘I wish it were so’. De la Rosa (who lives in Ciudad Juarez) wrote the text and tells of the frustrations, anger, and despair of living in this dangerous area of the world. For more details please go to: spaceheat.com/

  2. This artists' book investigates the politics, culture, and psychology of the great (and ineffective) border fence that is being built for billions of dollars along the Mexican-US border south of Tucson. For more information please go to my website spaceheat.com/ .

  3. This double book looks at the two side of wanderlust and the desire to travel to foreign lands. The first side of this dos-á-dos structured book is about the happier side of travel, the search for 'the other' and the exotic. The other side is about the underbelly of travel: the rejection of the foreigner (traveler of émigré) by the natives, about xenophobia and racism, and the dark side of human nature when encountering the unfamiliar. 4. This artists' book tries to tease out the mindset of an elderly person in a barren desertland at the end of his life. Religion and hope in an afterlife can be so seductive when one looks ahead at (and is scared of) crossing over the border into the land of death. 5. This artists' book is a board-book in the form of a breviary that follows one day in the life of a migrant worker trudging across the hot Sonoran desert. The cloud images show the passage of the day as the migrant walks towards, then crosses the border. The book starts at dawn and ends at dusk. There is much more information on this book (edition, backstory, production notes and so on) at my website, spaceheat.com/ .
