Patient and public engagement in commissioning refers to involvement in many different types of commissioning decision-making at many different levels and there is potential for patients and members of the public to be involved in all stages of the commissioning process including developing new ideas for services, helping develop the evaluation criteria by which services are prioritised, being part of a commissioning board, working with commissioning managers to develop contracts and developing and carrying out effective monitoring of services.
