1. LA PETITE MORT, a short piece on the theme of death and its rituals, is a duet by two sisters. They are the eternal guests in a Venetian hotel. The city is sinking and the water is rising, Venice is perishing. The hotel is just a matter of time, it is eroded by damp and about to collapse. The inevitable fate of the city seems to run disastrously parallel with the life of the two sisters.

  2. A dance theatre performance for children from
    3-8 years
Every morning Mol wakes up in his familiar surroundings. He has got his own room with his own things and his own rituals. Today that’s going to change. Suddenly his room is filled with strange noises. What might it be? It's Minne Minstreel, an adventurer who's passing through and has chosen Mol’s living room to have a short rest from her adventures.

Minne is an eccentric girl. She has seen a lot of the world and is always curious about people and things she doesn’t yet know. As she steps into his tidy house, Mol is startled by the sudden presence of this strange girl. What should he do about this stranger in his familiar little house with his familiar things?

The performance shows us the encounter of Minne and Mol, how they learn to understand and eventually trust each other. Because, even though these characters are worlds apart, they eventually get used to the peculiarities of the other one, which leads to a special friendship. Mol dares to let Minne into his familiar world and Minne stimulates Mol’s curiosity by showing him the unknown.

  3. SALTO MORTALE is an aerial performance, a dance performance in the air. The premiere took place at ‘Theater Galerie op de Rotte’. The performance took place in the neighbourhood, at the bridge near the Laurens church in the centre of Rotterdam.

SALTO MORTALE happens in the centre of the atmosphere and entourage of the specially made floating installation, on the water of the river Rotte. The installation is made of little boats, made from leaves, which are filled with flowers and ashes, an eastern death ritual to remember the dead. Because of the wind and the water the boats are always moving. This creates the illusion like always being on their way. The simple constant movement pattern of the ever-floating boats, claim a certain peace in this place, in the middle of a dynamic, vibrant city. This image stands in total contrast to its environment. In the hectic environment an ambience arises. Most big cities lack this ambience of peace, a place for passengers to stop by and take a rest. They see a totally different view of the city and get the possibility to open themselves for something different and new.

This is where Salto Mortale begins. Two aerial dancers fight with spectacular stunts, the element of earth. In aerial silks, which rise from the water with the boats of leaves, the dancers reach the top of the bridge, where they transform. They are also on their way, they are travellers in time. They begin low, near the water, they want to get higher and higher, fall back down, defying gravity. Can they eventually surrender to heaven?

  4. Wo Bist Du: de eerste productie van Rauher Engel. Dit is de nieuwe
naam waaronder Dagmar Chittka, een van de twee choreografen
van voorheen Lieber Gorilla, een nieuwe start maakt. In Wo Bist
Du zien we drie eigentijdse Doornroosjes. Zij proberen hun stok

Rauher Engel is a new dance theatre company in Rotterdam. The drive behind 'Rauher Engel' is artistic director Dagmar Chittka. She works with changing guest dancers. 'Rauher EngeL' has been founded in March 2006 and has a repertory of six dance theatre productions.

Dagmar has graduated at the ‘Rotterdamse Dansacademie’ and started to make choreographies during her study. In 1993 she won the ‘Corrie Hartong Price’ with the dance piece 'Es tanzt das ZNS'. From 1997 to 2006 she was one of the two artistic directors of the dance theater company ‘Lieber Gorilla’.

Rauher Engel’s performances are a freakish mix of dance, movement, play and acrobatics. They are characterised by lyrical sceneries, physical intensity and absurdity. It’s a game of contrasts like rough and gentle, beauty and depravation, tender and hard. A powerful metaphorical language takes shape and communicates directly with the audience. That’s why the productions are very suitable for young public as well.
A special element in the work of ‘Rauher Engel’ is the use of aerial work. By dancing in silks (tissu) and trapeze the variety of movements gets expanded which enables the dancers literally to move between heaven and earth, in the 4th dimension.
