1. From economics and football to surf photography, the ‘master of light’ Ted Grambeau found his calling after an injury caused him to reconsider his career and pursue photography.

Based at Currumbin on the Gold Coast, Ted creates images that combine water and light, and his life of living the dream has taken him to all the best locations around the world. Travel is his teacher and photography is his reason.

Ted’s work delivers decisive moments and truth, blending art and photo-journalism. His images have been published in the world’s finest magazines, and has transcended traditional surf photography to become pure art. Ted’s journey of discovery has taken him to the furthest corners of the world and his photography documents the life and the ocean he sees around him.

His books include a dedicated volume of the Surfers Journal ’ Masters of Surf Photography’ series, and he also photographed the spectacular imagery for the kids’ book “The Surfer and the Mermaid” that inspires children (and the child in all of us) to respect the ocean.

The Surfer and the Mermaid will be recreated as a children’s theatre production for Bleach*, and Ted’s work will also be displayed as part of the art installation component of the festival.

  4. Shelli Bankier’s ocean imagery speaks of moments in time.

Now one of the few women on the surf industry arena, Shelli grew up on the ocean sailing around the world on a yacht with her family, an experience that has shaped her life and instilled in her a deep love of the ocean.

Having received her first camera when she was two years old and being inspired by her dad, an avid amateur cameraman, photography was also second nature to Shelli. When she connected the two, sparks flew.

Shelli became the second female photographer to be published in Australia’s Surfing Life magazine, and since then opened Inverse Gallery in Burleigh Heads for a period of time, and has widely exhibited her prints.

Her surf and ocean photography steps away from commercialism, and is a way for Shelli to connect with and share the beautiful grace of the ocean.

“Being blessed to live on one of the most beautiful coastlines on the globe, and having travelled and learnt from some of the best surf photographers in the world, I am able to paint with my camera, to capture these singular moments in time. I like to let my photography speak for itself, to create a scenic ambience, a free sense of space and bring the Ocean in through the windows of my images.”

Shelli has been instrumental to Bleach*, serving as both the event’s Assistant Curator as well as one of the festival’s contributing artists. For more info visit:
