1. Too often our mind get's in the way. ". . . . set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts. . . " 2 Cor. 1:22 Notice the Spirit does not go in our minds but heart. That is where God works. It is when we move from the heart to our minds that we simply get in the way. Our doubts, fears, and faithlessness enters. So less mind, more heart.

  2. I was listening to the audiobook, "The Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy. Mr. Hardy had a wonderful suggestion that I am CHALLENGING all of US to do. We will call it the 30 Day Appreciation Journal. Are you up for the challenge?

For 30 days write three specific things every night in a journal that your spouse did that day that you are thankful for. . . things that you appreciate. It could be her hair, eyes, the way she dressed, her smell, a nice smile she gave you or someone else. Whatever it may be, find three. Now I know that there are some men that will find this easy to do. They look for the good and I would bet their marriages are great because of it.
Some of you may find this hard. I am sure you could come up with plenty of things they may do wrong or could improve but that line of thinking needs to STOP. If you look for the good in others you will find it and soon discover more of it.
After 30 days take your wife on a date, give her the journal, and watch her be overwhelmed with positive emotion. In the 30 day period you will also have trained your mind to look for the good and that "good finding" will then begin to work in your heart. Again, you up for the CHALLENGE?

  3. "It is the little steps (THINGS), compounded over time, that make a difference. The things you do every singe day-the things that don't look dramatic, that don't even look like they matter-DO MATTER" (J. Olsen)
These little habits, bad or good, make a huge difference in our lives. If we are to shine bright for Christ we better make sure we are eliminating the bad habits that dim our light and form great habits that make us shine bright.
DO YOU KNOW YOUR BAD HABITS? If not, take "inventory" because what you don't know WILL HURT YOU.

  4. Life can be very much like a cranking a well pump. In order to receive blessings in our life we need to “pump the well”. We need to be consistent in the disciplines over a long period of time in order to see the benefits in our life. Too often we start and then stop way too early. We pray for a week and then stop. We read our Bibles for a few days and then put them away. We date our spouse for a couple of months and then get lazy. We go to the gym excited to lose weight only to give up after 6 months because we only lost 6lbs. What happens when we start then stop? We go back to the beginning. Do you want to live your life always starting back at the beginning??
If we are to shine bright for Christ, if we are to lead our families they way Christ would want us to lead them we need to mature and PROGRESS. We cannot be that incredible light for others to see if we never leave the starting block! Don’t think that you have to sprint, realize that you just have to be consistent NOT GIVING UP ON WHAT YOU START. Pump the well. Work hard and when the water starts to flow KEEP PUMPING. Steady pumps. . . do not stop, maintain the disciplines and watch God work in your life.

  5. I have the privilege of being a part of an incredible group of godly men. I would go to battle for every one of them and I feel they would for me as well. There is something incredibly powerful about men coming together on a weekly basis to call each other UP. I could not imagine trying to become a better husband, better father, or shine brighter for Christ without having other men encouraging and cheering me on in my life.
So, let me ask you a few questions. Are you trying to do it alone? Do you have men in your life that call you up on a daily or weekly basis? Are you supporting and calling other men up in your life? If you do have that in your life you know the significance. If not, I KNOW there is a longing in your heart to have those relationships. Don’t try and do it alone. . . the battle is too rough.
