  2. ECHO is an organization that has its sights set on eliminating world hunger. They do this through training international NGO's, key in-country agricultural experts, and anyone else who has a heart for the poor.

Tim Watkins was one of the first interns to go into the field and return to become a member of ECHO staff. Tim now trains others who visit the ECHO demonstration farm in Ft. Myers, Florida.

The purpose of this short profile is to simply introduce prospective partners and donors to the kind of people who make up this excellent team.

I must say that after 30 years of producing corporate, story-oriented films and videos for my clients, ECHO has impressed me as being one of the more visionary and practical I've seen. They know their business. ECHO's focus on best practices for agriculture and what they call "Appropriate Technologies" is a powerful combination. To learn more about them, which I recommend, visit echo.org.

Budget: Part of a package that included a week of shooting, concept, post-production and four videos. The portion of the work that was not considered "pro-bono" came to less than $15,000.

Bob Hargrave is a seasoned missionary. As part of the ECHO staff, is the sort of "answer-man", or could be thought of as technical support for people in the field who need help with difficult growing conditions or new ideas for making cook-stoves from coffee cans.

  4. When I set out to produce In The Wake Of Giants, I didn't know I would be asked to speak on behalf of the effort of volunteers who risk their lives for the sake of humpback whales. I actually really enjoy it.

The film has won awards at the Blue Ocean Film Festival, the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival and has aired on PBS' Natural Heroes.

Entanglement is a huge problem these days. The whales, dolphins and porpoises who get wrapped up in marine debris often perish as a result. Ed Lyman, head of the rescue effort in Maui says they have nearly a 100% success rate if they can get TO THE ANIMAL in time. Unfortunately, the injured animal often spooks and dives. The original spotters on the water will report the sighting, but can't always stay on hand while rescuers deploy.

This short segment was not in the original film. It did make the cut for the full length 24 minute documentary. If you'd like to order a DVD, please let me know by writing me at loudouros@gmail.com. The cost is $18 + shipping.
