Doug Lyon: Media Academic

  1. Doug interviewed Dec 2011 by Julie Hartwell and Rachel Collins at the University of Brighton for their year three media degree Dissertation By Practice first cut. This research project explores and questions why so many artists seem to 'sell out' and why much originally cutting edge music becomes bland or commercial by the second or third album.

Doug became a music journalist in 1986 when contributing to BBC Radio Sheffield's R.O.T.T and Steve Barker's 'On The Wire' on BBC Radio Lancashire. Doug also produced for BBC Radio Sussex's 'Turn It Up' in the early 90's and Brighton's brilliant Festival Radio.

Doug taught Radio Production at The University of East London 92-2000 and currently teaches Video Production at the University of Brighton.

  2. LM215 is the second year video module I teach, and often I become a subject for practice videos at the end of the pre-production stage - sometimes these clips get taken out, other times they stay and get hosted in context in the final video, on the brightonunivideos YouTube showcase of my student's work.

Here on my own Vimeo site, I am uploading full versions of the interviews or out takes just as an archive in case it's any use to anyone. And because I like sharing.
