Before the final game of the Red Sox interleague series vs. the Cubs at Fenway Park, Marine Sgt. Terrence Burke, Iraq Veteran and Dorchester resident, ran the bases as part of the 2nd annual Run to Home Base Presented by New Balance.
Earlier in the day, more than 2,000 runners participated in the 9K Run and crossed the finish line at home plate. The event raised money for the Red Sox Foundation and the Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program.
The Run to Home Base presented by New Balance® is a unique 9K fundraising run through scenic Boston ending with the unforgettable experience of finishing the race by literally crossing home plate at historic Fenway Park. Friends and family can watch you from the stands at Fenway, with food, entertainment and fun family activities available in the concourses of America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.
The run honors our nation’s heroic veterans and help raise much needed funds for the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program. This outreach serves the many veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat stress and/or traumatic brain injury and their families.
