Market-led, User-owned ICT4Ag-enabled Information Service (MUIIS) is an innovative project that harnesses the power of satellite data to support extension and advisory services to farmers in Uganda. A critical component of MUIIS is the capacity building activities of farmer organisations to own the information service and provide advisory services to their members.
The project is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) through the G4AW Facility of Netherlands Space Office (NSO) and it is being implemented by CTA in partnership with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), aWhere Inc., the East African Farmers’ Federation (EAFF), EARS Earth Environment Monitoring (EARS-E2M), the eLEAF Competence Center (eLEAF), and Mercy Corps, Uganda.
Denis Cosmas Acobi, Senior Programme Officer, Mercy Corps, Uganda explains what it is all about.
In this short video Jackson Byaruhanga and Hamlus Owoyesiga from Igara Growers Tea Factory Ltd (IGTF), Uganda summarise the activities implemented in the framework of a CTA-funded project which led to the profiling of more than 4000 smallholder tea producers, most of them being shareholders of IGTF. The project led to improved services provided by IGTF to its members, increased delivery of tea leaves to the factory, to the establishment of a SACCO and other measurable positive impacts.
