Initial troop movement in the beginning of the match is crucial to gaining the advantage. Destroying the enemy's arty is a priority and a high risk for scouts to accomplish. This instructional video shows how important it is to help your team and survive the battle as a scout. Techniques used are: Initial Movement Spotting, Distraction, Anti-Scout Defense, Sniping, and Destroying Arty. Be sure to recognize key terrain features that assists scouting maneuvers. The swamp is a high risk zone for any scout that loses speed; therefore, maintaining a constant speed in and out provides better results.
When playing arty from side 1, a great location for arty to defend Icy Road is at F2. Getting there quick is crucial for slowing down a push into the arty safe zone. A solid shot on their main tanks will help to keep them back. If the enemy decides to stay at the kill zone, then they will die in time (pending hits and reload times).
After successfully defending, arty will have to decide to join the push which presents the time for playing in TD mode. The key for your TD mode success is to know where isolated tanks are and have a forward tank help you with the attack.
Several demonstrations can be viewed from the video. The video shows my initial location and TD mode engagements. The first TD mode kill was luck as the enemy arty was engaging me. The next several kills are ideal for arty to attack in TD mode.
Expect to get countered early in the battle. Strike with a counter when least expected.
This video demonstrates the value of gaining the advantage by demoralizing forces early in battle with counter artillery kills. Midways through the battle, the enemy was motivated to push and it was hard to stop them with fewer artillery. With a couple of lucky shots, the push was stopped and a rally occurred.
