Backside Lipslide
To master this one you should really spend lots of time practicing them static at home or in the flats. Learning how to pop back 180s moving slow from your heelside edge will make a huge difference. Finally learning how to ollie over boxes/rails from your heels and learning how to ollie into Backside 50/50's are absolute necessities!

At home or in the flats
-Try to jump this backward toward your heels over your towel or a line in the snow moving the whole board back at least 4-6"
-Now try adding in the 90 degree rotation by closing your shoulders (point your lead shoulder toward your toe side edge) before you pop
-after you pop and your board releases use your legs and hips to rotate the board into position and counter the shoulders
-Drive the back leg back over the rail and try to straighten it our, this will help move the board in under your core so you can press the nose and hold it.
-Pop off your nose back to straight

Some tips for popping the back 180's
-Focus on jumping back toward your heelside edge and toward the nose of the board as you pop into this spin.
-Use a pre-wind with your lead shoulder pointed toward the heelside edge.
-Lock in a clean heelside edge while riding across the hill slowly.
-Unwind your shoulders (lead shoulder rotates toward toe side edge) and start to sink down toward your nose by bending your front knee and ankle.
-Look blind and pop, think about popping off your nose and rocking back toward your heels (up hill) this will send you into the spin properly.

Ollie over the rail
-First learn to ollie hard off your heel side edge out on a groomer and off of small natural features
-Next find an easy flat box/rail or down feature that isn't too intimidating
-approach the feature on a clean heelside edge with a very slight angle across the rail
-as you set your pop be sure to rock back toward your heels (your edge will tip a little higher)
-Try to align your self to cross over the rail about 3' out from the lip of the take off.
-ollie clean off the tail and suck your knees up.
-Hold your knees up high until you have cleared the feature then stomp down.

Backside 50/50
-Use a line that is almost parallel to the feature
-Set to pop clean off your heels and rock back toward your heels as you start to ollie
-Ollie just enough to get aligned to the angle of the feature and land about 3' out from the lip of the take off ramp.
-The ollie will set you up to land at the angle of the rail, if you just jump off both feet at the same time you will land tail heavy on the rail and when you try to rotate into the back lip you will land toe heavy, ouch…
-Slide through the end of the feature and give it a little pop off the end

Tips for success

Approach
Remember to set a clean heel side edge. When you set your line set it almost parallel to the rail/box with just a very slight angle that is lined up at a point about 3' down the feature. Keep you speed down at first so that you can more easily time and master the movements. Be sure to set your lead shoulder just slightly pointed toward your toe side edge to help prepare for the rotation after you pop.

Take off
If its a flat feature you can pop from the center of your board but if your getting onto a down rail make sure to set with a clean ollie from your heelside edge and pop to the rail. Remember that you should be aiming to land 2-3' down the feature so you don't want to pop so hard that you get high above the rail and disaster onto the feature. Be sure that ollie is strong enough from the tail to get your board and body arching to a upright position on the feature.

Maneuver
After you pop the board will start to rotate toward your shoulders and you should immediately counter with your shoulders against the lower body. Be sure to focus on shifting the nose of your board in under the body by straightening your back leg driving your back heel down and flexing the front leg while squishing the tongue of your boot. Focus on landing soft on the feature you don't want to hear a loud clank just a crisp little click. Look through your lead armpit and hold that press all the way through the end of the rail.

Landing
As you approach the end of the rail pop off your nose slightly and let the board snap back in line with your countered shoulders. Pull your knees up a little hold and then stomp your board down clean. If you nail this then be sure to give it a little after bang just to let the guys on the chair know whats up...

Happy backside lipping everyone!!!
