1. The "Fubble experience" was my team's final presentation for the Strategic Design Thinking Module, as part of our Master of Design Ethnography and Master of Design course at the University of Dundee.

The brief asked us to create a cultural probe which would allow a large Telco company to better understand the emotions and problems experienced by the customer which causes them to drop out or move service provider.

  2. Our initial discussions about our quantitative data revealed that we had taken different approaches to gathering the same information and so it wouldn't be accurate to present comparisons. By itself, we didn't feel that the data gave us a story worth telling.

Originally, we decided to take a more ethnographic approach to the project and had both collected additional sketches showing our movements through our bedrooms, both before going to sleep and right after waking up. Once we made the decision to not focus on the obvious, this qualitative data revealed a more meaningful story.

The visualization is not meant to give a scientific understanding of the sleep patterns. This approach aims to understand our habits surrounding the places in which we sleep and our movements through time and space. We hope this presents a more playful, creative look at our routines and habits and how they could relate to our sleep patterns.

Some of the projects I have been involved in include:

Visualizing statistical profiles of a city in a new way to communicate to decision-makers how individuals use public services
Researching how distant communication has changed us over the last 40 years
Exploring how a 12 person household manages list-making decisions and chore division
Abstracting and turning the design process into a tangible 3D model
Redesigning the yoghurt experience
Searching (unsuccessfully) for the Loch Ness monster
Visualizing patterns of our daily habits and mapping movements through our living spaces
Designing a cultural probe to gather insights about frustrations with phone providers
Directing a puppet show client presentation
Evaluating software with my most critical eye and imagining ways to make it more user friendly
Understanding what makes conference-goers feel included in a community and helps them be engaged
