Mindfulness is simply being fully aware of what you are doing, thinking or feeling in the present moment ... This can be much harder than it seems, as most of us get caught up in thoughts of what might have been or what may still to happen. Our mind very rarely enjoys "just being" in the experience of where and what you are right now!
By intentionally bringing out focus to the present, to what is actually taking place within us and around us right now, mindfulness can free us to reach a more peaceful and creative state. Mindfulness can release us from the constraints and fears that come with our habitual ruminating on the past - on what happened and what might have been.
Mindfulness also can free us form anxiety and worries that all too often arise as we become concerned about what may happen in the future, or dread a repeat of what may have happened in the past.
The truth is that "The Past" has gone and cannot be retrieved ... While The Future is yet to come and we have no way of really knowing what that will actually bring.
If we can live more fully in the present, doing our best at any moment ...treating ourselves kindly without harsh judgment or recrimination ... We can then have more available energy to focus on what we are actually doing, and so come to live more peacefully and successfully ... bringing greater benefit to ourselves and others.
