  2. ssRNA: virus transmission gives a brief outline of the different modes of virus transmission from one infected organism to another. With reference to ssRNA viruses and their transmission to and between humans the following modes are discussed: the faecal oral route, aerosol droplets, dust particles and animal excreta, the bite of an infected animal, virus-infected arthropods that feed on mammals, virus-contaminated needles, viraemic blood, sexual transmission and congenital transmission.

  3. ssRNA: virus classification gives a short history of the various technological advancements and theories which led to a gradual understanding of the different properties of viruses such as: morphology; the physical and chemical characterization of their protein and nucleic acid components; their mode of replication; and the nucleic acid sequences which form their genome. Based on these properties, the International Committee for the Taxonomy of Viruses has come up with a process of virus classification. This is graphically illustrated and the basic information is given for the positive and negative ssRNA viruses.

ssRNA viruses: general principles and replication strategies is a series of educational videos on ssRNA viruses.
With the help of vivid 3D animations and accurate visual representations, these videos explore the topics of virus classification, virus transmission, virus evolution, virology techniques and antivirals. They also give a detailed account of the replication cycles and strategies of four important and representative single-stranded RNA viruses: polio virus, SARS coronavirus, influenza A virus and rabies virus.
The videos provide an extensive, flexible and invaluable aid for teaching virology, biology and their related disciplines at both university and high-school level. They can also be used directly by molecular biology, virology and medical students as a visual aid and a stimulating accompaniment to textbooks. Finally, they can be of interest to healthcare professionals in providing background knowledge relating to their work.
