SUPER DISCOUNT, as the name implies, is about sales.
In the sales process something interesting happens:
The value of an object is debated, questioned and redefined.
That is what SUPER DISCOUNT is all about:
We treat art like any other product, selling it on the market with a 2 for 1 pricetag,
a promotional present or in any other kind of deal.
SUPER DISCOUNT invites artists to collaborate in this ironic discours of the art market through a series of actions. What they all have in common is the radicalization of art as a piece of merchandise confronting it directly with objects of daily life and their commercial sales strategies.
The souvenir is one of the central topics of the my artistic work.
My last piece concentrates on the city of Barcelona, whose image has changed a lot in the last years.
I chose the figure of the Pakistani who sells beer as an emblematic figure of Barcelona.
With the creation of a monument to the Pakistani, a real size sculpture on the streets of Barcelona
and the corresponding souvenirs, small size copies of the monument, I tried to open a dialogue
about the life and the integration of certain groups of immigrants in the city of Barcelona and push
to a reflection on the evolution of the cities and its image change.
Example of the video installation for the exhibition.
This project captures people confessing their deepest secrets openly inside a photo booth.
These confessions however, will never leave the photo booth, as no sound was recorded, only the raw expressions of people confessing their darkest secrets. The stories told, will be kept only as a series of images.
Confession at the Photo Booth invites people to enter a space of intimacy. You can experience alien secrets, where fear, excitement and shame become visible but remain a secret.
This art project was developed an produced in collaboration with Nuria Krämer and Golf Nuntawat.
