uneditied version of the lecture (1 of 2) on mixed strategies and mixed strategy Nash Equilibrium. We had to rush thorough some of this material, but we have one more lecture hour on it...where we can go a little slower and make sure we (well you) understand the ideas here - the text is very "mathy" and "algebraic" on this topic.

This is an excerpt from class looking at the VCM (Voluntary Contributions Mechanism) game where players can give some, none , or all of their endowment to the group account. The first version is the standard VCM game, yielding the standard VCM result : no contributions as players rationally play their dominant strategies, yet if they hadn't play their dominant strategies and "gave" a little...they could all be better off. The second version alters the game by imposing a threshold on the level of giving - otherwise contributions are returned. This version of the game now makes some levels of giving - some of those that meet the threshold where both players give "just enough" - also into Nash Equilibria. But by solving one problem - a prisoner's dilemma - another - a coordination problem - has been created. Note....playing the dominant strategies of not giving anything is also still a Nash Equilibrium
Raw unedited video/audio of the third hour of Thursdays Lecture. When there is no action on the screen (i.e. the little mouse pointer moving) these can be a bit boring, especially if i'm talking about administrative things - as I did for the first part of the class today. Also, the audio quality is poor - my headset wasn't functioning so when I move away from the computer audio levels drop a bit.
