    2 FROGS IN THE WEST
    Directed by Dany Papineau
    2011 | Canada | 97 mins | RATING: 18A

Wanting more out life, Marie Deschamps decides to leave her native Quebec and head to the ski slopes of British Columbia despite her family’s protests. Dismal failure awaits her as she arrives in Whistler lacking English skills and finding the town off-season. Thankfully she meets a friendly face from Quebec who invites her to live in a huge house filled with interesting people. With this support, she is able to find employment and soon things are looking more secure and more interesting. Marie enters into a lesbian love affair with a co-worker, befriends a gay male roommate, partakes in drugs, parties and has to deal with unresolved family issues. Marie now begins to wonder if life in Whistler was the worst decision she could have made or would it lead to something better like finding real love? (KB & RM)

    Fairy Tales Presentation Society

Fairytales Presentation Society is a not-for-profit, charitable organization located in Calgary, Alberta that focuses on showcasing local and national queer artists. As our name suggests, and bylaws state; we showcase and celebrate queer artists of all artistic mediums including but not limited to film. Our artistic endeavors strive to provide a safe and respectful venue for members of all communities to celebrate queer culture. While the term queer often refers to people who are LGBTTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit and questioning), Fairytales understands queer to also include those who subscribe to culturally, politically, artistically, and otherwise alternative and innovative ways of contributing to society. We see queer as a vista, a way of looking at the world differently- with an eye towards diversity, criticality and inclusion.

  4. Thursday June 2 | 7 PM | The Plaza Theatre | Lovers of a Certain Vintage… | PG

    GEN SILENT
    Directed by Stu Maddux
    2010 | USA | 63 mins
    RATING: PG

This is one of the most amazing documentaries that you will see in this lifetime. We can and have often over looked that fact that there is an aging population in the LGBT community. They are equally brave for either coming out or silently enduring oppressive cultural norms in a time when it seemed those who are LGBT would never be given dignity. They are also pioneers for starting or joining the push for equal rights that we enjoy more of today. But we don't often realize that aging brings about a whole new group of experiences. For the people in this film, a fear of discrimination from institutions for the aging and family can become real again. This film follows a group of individuals dealing with rejection, loneliness, vulnerability, anger, anxiety, deterioration, mental illness, and cancer. We also see strength, hope and new expressions of love, which makes their lives and testimony profound and deeply moving. Do not be surprised if watching this brings tears to your eyes because it is very real.

Have you ever been told that you are too skinny to dance? Not enough pecs? Not sexy enough? Such criticism does not stop Daniel Ferguson from wanting to show the world that he can be the next Jennifer Beals from Flashdance. What a feeling!
