Films shot in the Anamorphic process include: Jaws, The Royal Tenenbaums, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, The Parallax View and countless others. Getting your hands on Anamorphic lenses is very difficult for the low budget filmmaker…so I created my own FREE After Effects project that replicates the look and feel of the Anamorphic process. The link above gives you access to the VashiMorphic40 After Effects Project.
This is a promo for the morning news show. All shot with the Canon C300 in Canon Log gamma. It's nice to have the extra room for grading with Canon XF and log to get the look I wanted without worrying about the image breaking up. The spot is supposed to have a documentary style so I shot handheld and added a Figrig as well. I really like the Figrig. Easy to use and gets the micro jitter out. The Canon 24-105 with IS was the main lens. I also used the Canon 35mmL wide open for several shots including the end shot and weather on cam. The anchor desk shot was tough to pull off. Handheld and slip focusing to the second anchor that wide with the 35mmL at F1.4. What was I thinking? I wanted that nice soft BG That's what I was thinking! For the two time lapse shots I used a Panasonic GH2.
Please visit eriknaso.com for more on the process of shooting and editing this promo. I'm working on how I shot this spot and going through the grading to get what I wanted from the footage. You will be surprised what you can get out the footage with very little work. eriknaso.com/2013/04/25/shooting-and-editing-canon-log-with-the-c300-and-c100/
