    1846 Hector Berlioz opera in 2010 for Lyric Opera
    of Chicago, setting it in Eastern Europe in the 1970’s.
    A carefully composed vocabulary of projected images
    helped visualize Faust’s inner state.

  2. Composed in 1927, Alban Berg’s Lulu was the first opera to include specific stage directions for a FILM to be projected as a part of the staging. In this 2008 Lyric Opera of Chicago production digital video was used to carefully emulate period film and advance the narrative.

  3. Arthur Miller’s final play. In this 2004 world premiere production at the Goodman Theatre director Robert Falls sought to embed images that evoked the 1960 film that inspired the play. A filmic overture preceded each of the three acts, projected on shifting planes reminiscent of movie screens. A carefully choreographed live camera
    feed added layers of extreme close-ups to the live performances.
