  2. Tutorial on how to use picture styles to increase the dynamic range of the Canon 7D / 5DMkII.

Custom picture styles are an amazing feature that almost compensate for the lack of a raw codec for video capture on the Canon DSLRS. The default picture styles on the camera are geard towards producing nice results out of the box but are not very good if you intend to do color correction and grading in postprocessing. This tutorial shows how to use custom picture styles that produce very flat, high dynamic range footage (similar to real film cameras).

The actual picture styles have been made by other people, and here are some references:
Super Flat, Genesis Panalog and Velvia:
    cinema5d.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3401

    Marvel's Cine Style:
    marvelsfilm.wordpress.com/2009/10/19/canon-7d-picture-style-with-cine-gamma-s-curve-free-download/

If you have problems downloading them, you can get them from here in one package (crnkovic.org/video/picture_styles.zip). I do however recommend that you get them from the original sources and read the forum posts/blog posts associated with them.

The final example footage was shot handheld (Zacuto rapid fire + zfinder) at Skogskyrkogården cemetery in Stockholm. I scouted the place for a possible future shoot and the footage I shot was never meant for release - it did however come handy in this tutorial as it was all shot using the super flat picture style.

  4. This is the first project in a series of hopefully many more released by Team Nine. Set in Switzerland and Iceland, Shutter Ísland tells the story of Iwan and Raphael meeting up for a fifteen day journey exploring the island in the North Atlantic. We knew that Iceland is also referred to as photographer's paradise so we packed some camera equipment and a plan for a video project. The idea was to capture the sceneries that we came across while driving and hiking, and to bring them home as a souvenir. Good memories.

  5. December 11, 2013 Update: During the making of the film, Judy and Sophie’s Story, we fell in love with the indefatigable Judy Zappia, her adoring husband, George Imbrie, and her helper monkey, Sophie. Judy and George battled long and hard with Judy’s Multiple Sclerosis and they gave us their story “straight up.” Judy died earlier this month. We will miss her.

    *****

Judy met George while on a sailing trip in the Caribbean. They fell in love, married, and began an active life in Vermont. From the moment Judy discovered she had progressive multiple sclerosis, life for the couple began to change in ways they could have never predicted. By the summer of 2011, Judy had long lost her ability to walk and most of the motion in her upper body. George had become a full time caregiver. This is the story of how Sophie, a capuchin monkey, came to change both of their lives.
