My parents, Arun, and I flew in to Kansas for our blessing ceremony or Nandimukh on March 17, 2012. In preparation for our wedding, Swapan Uncle led a ceremony where we invite our forefathers from Arun's side of the family and my side of the family to join us for one big Bengali-Italian gathering. Starting with ancestors, our parents, elders, and family friends all blessed us. The ceremony lasted 3 hours and afterwards we sat down to 12 of Arun's favorite dishes to eat. Thanks Ranu and DJ for putting together a great celebration and feast!
Arun chose a 1980s bollywood number called "Pardesia yeh sach hai piya" for our dance at Libby and Abhi's wedding. Abhi and his brother Shuddie are childhood friends of Arun and Arijit. Arun choreographed our parts of the dance from the movie scene:
It was then my turn to practice for my first dance performance. After a week and a half of evening dance sessions, here's the result. I hope you enjoy it or at least get a good laugh.
Arun's dance performance at the 2010 Durga Puja in Lawrence, Kansas. Her parents, Ranu and DJ, along with Swapan Uncle, were the main organizers of the two day festival celebrating Goddess Durga's triumph over the demon Mahishasura. It was an incredible experience...Arun hasn't performed for 5 years and had to choreograph and learn this dance in just over a week since I was traveling and unable to learn our joint performance in time. Go Arun!
