This was an assignment in my Television Reporting Class at Penn State.
EVERY YEAR SINCE 2007 THE BIGGEST PARTY DAY OF THE YEAR, STATE PATTY’S DAY, HAS GROWN SUBSTANTIALLY.
PENN STATE STUDENT AND BOROUGH LEADERS OPPOSE THIS CELEBRATION BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AND POOR DECISIONS MADE BY THE EVENT ATTENDEES.
IN AN EFFORT TO DETER STUDENT INVOLVEMENT THE INTRAFRATERNITY COUNCIL HAS BANNED ALL FRATERNITY PARTIES ON STATE PATTY’S DAY.
TRACY BELL, STORE COORDINATOR OF THE FAMILY CLOTHESLINE DOESN’T BELIEVE THE DECISION WILL AFFECT STORE SALES.
“normally we have a new valentines day shirt we usually have a new spring t-shirt so it would just and thon we’ve gotten more involved in thon over the years. we would just focus our attention on other venues”
WITH INCREASED PARTICIPATION IN STATE PATTY’S DAY, STATE COLLEGE HAS FELT THE IMPACT. LAST YEAR THE STATE COLLEGE BOROUGH COUNCIL INCURRED NEARLY 40-THOUSAND-DOLLARS IN ADDITIONAL EXPENSES.
STATE COLLEGE BOROUGH MANAGER TOM FOUNTAINE SAYS THE BOROUGH IS PREPARED FOR STATE PATTY’S DAY.
“we hope that this year we’ll be able to create a little more sanity around the day but it really has been an increasingly difficult day and an increasingly bad day each year it has been held”
ALTHOUGH STATE PATTY’S DAY IS BEING HEAVILY OPPOSED THE OFFICIAL FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE CREATED BY ‘THE SCHOOL PHILLY’ HAS OVER TEN-THOUSAND PEOPLE CONFIRMED TO ATTEND THIS YEAR. REPORTING FROM STATE COLLEGE I’M JORDAN PRUETT.
