    [Full Synopsis]
"9 Muses of star Empire", an year-long chronicle that follows a journey of an all girl pop group called the "Nine Muses", portrays the every-day life of nine young girls, relentlessly pursuing their dreams, happiness, and satisfaction in a world of jealousy, betrayal, and scandal. The "Nine Muses", just like millions of other pop groups, is a new, emerging South Korean girl group, aspiring to perform on a national stage and gain world-wide fame. For that, the girls from their early age have decided to set aside their own agenda, interest, and identity, and instead live as one of the Muses, the character which the entertainment company created and coordinated every move. The girls, who have already worked hard and waited long to be chosen as one of the "Muses," still recognize there is an unrelenting fight that may never end. Meanwhile, they fall prey to a manage who treats the girls like his possessions, and fall vulnerable to competitors and other trainees who want to see the fail at all costs. The girls end up traveling across country, performing in front of small crowds at dark clubs, very different from the cameras on national stages they had been dreamed. They sleep in a crowded van during the night, and tirelessely performing their routines throughout the day. Amidst all the dramas, the tears, and the fatigue, the manager and one of the members develop a forbidden relationship and results in the member’s removal from the group.
From time to time, the girls think of running away and giving up, but eventually they find it inevitable to come back to where they began and continue to walk the same ardious road. They can't resist and easily forgo their dreams of being pop-singers.

    [Director’s biography]
Filmmaker Hark-Joon Lee is less known than a journalist with the same name who made the heartbreaking docu-reportage series about North Korean defectors “Korea: Out of the North” that have been aired throughout the globe including BBC and PBS. Having survived a number of life risking experiences, Lee received several national and international awards for journalistic achievement including Amnesty International’s best in human rights journalism and Emmy award nomination. While taking a break from North Korea, Lee realized what he always wanted to do was documentary and took Nine Muses and Star Empire as the subjects of his directorial debut.

  5. "Family time" tells the story of an Israeli family of Yemenite descent. The film observes a transformative trip the family takes to the Grand Canyon. The trip in a small, crowded RV, across the desert, discloses the fractures and varying perspectives among the family members. It centers on the conservative father who wishes the best for his three children, but cannot reconcile to the fact that he has no control over their futures. A father who’s worried about his youngest son, who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; a father who struggles with differences between him and his middle son, who emigrated from the country years ago; and a father who refuses to accept the fact that his eldest son is gay, truly believing that being gay is a psychological disorder that should be fixed. Amongst them all stands the mother who is trying to keep the family together, functioning and united. The story of the family is woven together during the trip itself, intergraded with an 8 millimetre archive footage of the family members. “Family Time” is a universal story of a family, with children trying to find self-fulfilment vis-a-vis the dreams and hopes of their parents.
