1. God's 911

    Ice-Breaker: Have you ever called 911 ? Explain..

    History of 911 - 1968. Mark Musick.

    First in Bible:
    Genesis 9:11
    And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. = rainbow

    Exodus 9:11
    And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.

    Deuteronomy 9:11
    And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.

    Nehemiah 9:11
    And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.

    Story of storm: (blizzard, Sabin, frightened daughter - quoted Psalm 91)

    Psalms 91:1
    He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
    shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

    "secret place" = Holiest of Holies
    "shadow" = shade means He's much bigger, than us or anything. Enemy has to get thru my God before getting to me!

    2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress:
    my God; in him will I trust.
    3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
    and from the noisome pestilence.
    4 He shall cover thee with his feathers,
    and under his wings shalt thou trust:
    his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
    5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night;
    nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
    6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness;
    nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
    7 A thousand shall fall at thy side,
    and ten thousand at thy right hand;
    but it shall not come nigh thee.
    8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold
    and see the reward of the wicked.
    9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge,
    even the most High, thy habitation;
    10 There shall no evil befall thee,
    neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
    11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
    to keep thee in all thy ways.
    12 They shall bear thee up in their hands,
    lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
    13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:
    the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
    14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
    15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will deliver him, and honour him.
    16 With long life will I satisfy him,
    and shew him my salvation.

    QUESTIONS:
    1) Share your experience of being born again?
    2) Describe the 'secret place' you have found in the Lord?
    3) How are you 'abiding under the shadow of the Almighty'?
    4) Name a 911 in your life that you are placing total trust in God for?

  2. Introduction:
    3 month Holy Consecration
    Focusing on Prayer, Fasting, Word.
    Jan–Prayer, Feb–Fasting, Mar-Word

    The WORD of God is the SOURCE of all that we know about God.

    The Word of God is the final arbiter of all REVELATION of all truth;
    nothing contrary to the Word of God is of God.

    If someone says they had a heavenly vision, an out of body experience, or even an angelic visitor that shared divine revelation, but it does not line up with the written Word of God, it is not truth.

    Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

    The Word of God was first spoken, then written.
    2 Pet 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

    The Bible is the basis of all we do:
    1) It DEFINES our LIFESTYLE
    2) It sets the BOUNDS of RELATIONSHIP
    3) It CONNECTS us with a HIGHER way of LIVING

    There are basic 2 reasons to study the Bible:
    1) Personal Devotion
    2) Evangelism Preparation (to share the Scripture with other people)

    Gordon McDonald referred to these 2 aspects of Bible study as:
    the DEFENSIVE and the OFFENSIVE.

    Personal DEVOTION is the Defensive, Evangelism PREPARATION is Offensive.

    My personal devotional study:
    1) Start every day with scripture.
    2) Read a Proverb chapter corresponding to the day.
    3) Read thru the Bible plan.
    4) Constantly cross-reference scriptures for practical application to society.

    There are 6 BLESSINGS to studying and understanding the Word of God in:
    Psalm 19:7-9 (read)

    Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
    Psa 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
    Psa 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

    1) It CONVERTS the SOUL (salvation – Acts 2:38)
    1 Cor 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

    2) It makes WISE the SIMPLE (new babe in Christ more astute than PHD w/o)
    Psa 119:98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
    Psa 119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
    Psa 119:100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.
    Psa 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

    3) It REJOICES the HEART (joy of Lord is our strength – Nehemiah 8:10; joy draw from waters of salvation – Isaiah 12:3)
    Psa 119:1 ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
    Psa 119:2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

    4) It ENLIGHTENS the EYES (no longer walking in darkness – intellect, age, gender, wealth, looks, none of this matters in the dark;

    Psalm 119:105 = “Word is light unto path, lamp unto feet”)

    5) It WARNS us of DANGER
    Psa 119:101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.
    Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. /
    2 Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

    6) It REWARDS the OBEDIENT (abundant life & eternal life)

    QUESTIONS:
    #1 – Do you believe the Bible IS the literal Word of God?
    #2 – What convinced YOU the Bible is God’s Word?
    #3 – Contrast your life BEFORE & AFTER being convinced the Bible is God’s Word?
    #4 – 2 Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

    What new way will you study the Bible to be approved unto God?

  3. Though designed for Home Friendship Group use, this edification may also be used for personal devotion, youth group study, Bible study groups, new converts, etc.
    Verse four is perhaps the pivotal verse of the chapter, but is dependent on what precedes and comes after.
    This chapter is the key to ridding oneself of worry and undue concern.

    HFG - Psalm 37:4
    Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

    Ice-Breaker:
    Describe a time when you were extremely impatient...

    Questions:
    1) have you ever fretted because of evildoers, or been envious of iniquity? Explain..
    2) share a testimony of an incident where God miraculously provided for you..
    3) how has God changed your desires???
    4) what ate some ways you are going to delight, commit, trust, rest, & wait in, and on the Lord?

  4. This is an edification produced for small group ministry by Pastor Art Hodges. This study of the first 13 verses of Psalm 51 is a remarkable reading. David is lamenting his sin with Bathsheba. Nathan the prophet has pointed him out. David, to his credit doesn't blame anyone else, doesn't justify himself, doesn't deserve any concession, simply throws himself on the long-suffering mercy of God. For 12 verses he asks God to wash, cleanse, blot, purge, hide his sins, create a clean heart, renew a right spirit, and restore the joy of his salvation.

    SO THAT, (verse 13) he can teach transgressors God's ways, and sinners shall be converted.

    Wow!! Your past failures can actually become God's illustrated sermons to a lost world.

    This Bible lesson was filmed in El Monte, CA; on the occasion of Pastor Jon & Berni Cupoli's 35th Pastoral Anniversary.

    ---------------------------------

    Psalm 51: Repent, THEN harvest..

    We are living in the endtimes - I call this the rapture generation;

    In Matt 24 Jesus foretells endtimes events,
    Matthew 24:32-34
    32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree... This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

    Bible scholars say fulfillment was Israel becoming sovereign nation in 1948. So the generation referred to would be those living in 1948. If born in 1947, would be 65yrs old today. So generation hasn't passed, but it is passing...

    One promise of endtimes is great revival, revelation of Jesus Christ & harvest of souls. South Bay is gearing up for this year, but before we launch our rallying theme for this year we are taking the first 3 months to set our own house in order: emphasizing, prayer, fasting, Word.

    Remarkable reading:

    Psalms 51:1-13

    To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

    1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

    2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

    3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

    4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

    5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

    6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

    7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

    8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

    9 Hide thy face from my sins, .and blot out all mine iniquities.

    10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

    11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

    12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

    13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

    Amazing - God will us as a powerful testimony, example, witness -- we become his illustrated!!!

    Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

    & Psalm 51 basically says when we set our house in order; ask for God's mercy, washing, cleansing, purging, Blotting out, renewing.

    When we are transgressing God's law, we r not good witness.
    When we r following our own ways (iniquity), we r not good witness.
    We may win people, but usually to 'our' own ways.
    If we are slackers, those we win will prob rise above our level of commitment.

    If all the church were just like me, what kind of church would this church be??

    SONG: it's not my brother, sister, me o Lord, standing in need of prayer..

    When we get a clean heart & right spirit, & then get in His presence, being filled w HS, find our JOY in Lord's SALVATION, God promises:

    13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

    Wow, a key to this endtime revival is to set my own house in order --

    One plants, another waters, God gives the increase!!!

    Want your children saved?
    Family saved?
    Friends?
    Neighborhood?
    Community?

    Set your house in order...

    QUESTION 1 - name a sign of the endtimes that has now become evident.

    QUESTION 2 - do you have family / friends not rapture ready?

    QUESTION 3 - what are the hindrances in your life keeping you from being an effective witness?

    QUESTION 4 - what can/will you do differently to be a more effective soul winner?

    PRAYER: pray by name for someone God is laying on your heart to witness to, share your testimony with, teach a bible study to, and/or invite to HFG or corporate church worship!!

  5. This is an interactive lesson designed especially for Home Friendship Groups. It could also be used effectively for personal or family devotions, Sunday School class, prayer meeting, youth retreats, etc.

    The idea for this thought came from Gerald Mangun through his son, Anthony Mangun, pastor of The Pentecostals of Alexandria (Louisiana), who shared that his father prayed after this pattern every day of his life. Pastor Anthony Mangun has since produced materials on this subject, though I have not viewed any of them. Thus, what is presented here is my summary adaptation of this thought, and so may not be exactly as presented by Anthony Mangun.

    Trusting this will be a blessing to you, and to the Kingdom!
