Filmed over a period of days last Summer, this painterly film documents the public/private moment between artist and collector. This piece is about the movement and relationship between colour, light and slowed down or reversed cinema. The artist wishes to capture a sense of calm and create a space between the deep breathing quality symbolised through a contemplative, dance like visual. The notion that inspiration lands at many times by
turning inward is the concept at the heart of this piece. This film featured at the Santorini Biennale 2012 #christopher #duncan #art
My new emotion sculpture Looking seeks to explore an internal and external voyeurism. I am interested in the idea that in modern life we are battling between an outward appearance towards others and how we wish the world to see us while being told that we ought to look within ourselves to reach a state of inner peace.
As a consequence I am drawn towards the relationship between player and viewer, constantly asking the question are we not all artists and performers in this modern age of high speed internet platforms such as facebook and online dating? A set like environment using projection, sound and lighting with live performance becomes the playground for my visual experiment. Looking Draws on elements of live performance, installation and modern drawing. Exploring the balance between the masculine and feminine cinematic gaze and the live sculptural nude I am presenting my audience with multiple visual options on which to ponder. #christopher #duncan #art
Inspired by the androgynous nude, Duncan performs a series of slow poses on and around a plinth. This installation forms a series of 'live sketches' in preparation for a series of paintings and sculptures to be shown in 2012 #christopher #duncan #art
Every discerning emerging artist understands the perils that run with social media and management of friends files/ sharing drop boxing and online climbing. Its exhausting... Ladyjanelane, art collector, and now artist manager and Studio Hand does not understand this generation at all. She doesn't have an iPhone as she is too busy collecting, loving and buying art/artists and making #christopher #duncan #art a pest of the recently burst art bubble.
