A Collaboration of successful events including St. Baldrick's 2012 which is a foundation that raises money to fight childhood cancer. All these events shown are making a difference in the world by changing peoples lives. It all starts with a dream, and then a question, and the response. What are you going to do with your life?
I shot all these event on my Canon 7D
and 28-135mm 3.5-5.6
Glidecam 4000 Pro
Final Cut Express
Filmed By Brian Tom
and dream portraits pictures form Cam Archer friend UCSC
Creative Assignment: In my piece i decided to exploit the medium specificity of mini DV. By using the technology against itself i wanted to test/expose the limitations and the abilities of the medium. Using a Panasonic dv camera i recorded images around my apartment. I filmed a wind sock, a movie on TV, pictures on my laptop, and myself looking at a web camera. I recorded these images using optical zoom up to 10x and digital zoom up to 700x. In using 700x digital zoom I wanted to expose/exaggerate the texture and unique visual look of mini dv. This approach caused the images to be unrecognizable and deconstructed. By filming my TV and Laptop screens and wanted to see how these digital images compared to images that i had filmed of nature.
By filming what had already been filmed I wanted to experiment with duplicating the visual style.
By filming what had already been filmed and filming things for the first time i wanted to contrast the two images see the visual difference.
The images that had been filmed from the tv and computer monitor suffer from frame rate issues creating a distorted images. While the images from nature looked crisp and clear. THis made me think about how eternal things in reality are in that they have no frame rate, but when we film it we (take that essence) and force it in to a medium that is limited by how many frames per second it can capture and how that is projected.
When filming, capturing, and viewing a mini DV tape the images become manipulated and constructed to reproduction of reality. What we see is no longer reality but a reproduction of it. By seeing the districting and the flashes in the image we see the imperfection of the images that can no longer truly represent reality. It is an odd cycle of seeing, filming, capturing (uploading to a computer), projecting it angina for us to view, and seeing again in a funneled form. In my project i wanted to exploit that process by repeating the filming and capturing process. After filming my images I filmed them again while capturing. This process of filming it a second exposed the digital materiality of the image even more.
also you may noticed that all my images are framed some how, through a window throughout the camera lens, throughout the screen of a tv or computer.
In order to exploit the materiality of digital video and digital images i used preview on my macbook to zoom in all the way onto an image. The images was made up of only square pixels of individual colors contented in each pixel.
By putting the fully zoomed in picture next to the itself it creates
I used editing to further expose the materiality of the medium. By digitally zooming in on an already digitally zoomed in image i wanted to further deconstruct the specificity of the medium by exposing the pixilation of the image. In part it was an experiment to see how far i could pixellate the image. I wanted to pixelate the image on several levels. The first step was to zoom in throughout camera then re film t and lastly to digitally zoom in on it through final cut pro. Next by placing the images side by side it can expose the difference in the image but at the same time they the same image put seen on two different levels.
