1. Continuing my interest in water modulated imagery, the original footage was shot while visiting Stone Harbor, New Jersey where ocean waters were flowing and ebbing into tidal pools. The patterns created by these flows were intriguing and I used my iPhone to capture the complex light modulations taking place. Several months later i revisited the footage, editing and creating the sound track.

I chose to abstract the patterns by converting the edited sequences into black and white to move away from the original subject matter.

  2. The original footage was shot during the summer 2017 in a bay called Fork Bay near Silver Islet, Ontario. I went out on a very foggy morning in my kayak to shoot both stills and video in this favorite place. The bay is as the name implies split into two forks and has been a constant joy to explore for years. This particular summer was very different from the others as I had lost my wife earlier in the year and making images and video was my main source of comfort. During this summer my good friend Jim lost his mother "Honey" a person that was very close to my wife Jane and myself.

This day turned out to be very productive as I created a series of still images that I titled "For Honey" and shot footage for this video as well. It wasn't until rather recently that I could bring myself to work with the video and further to create a sound track for the piece. This work joins a number of pieces that I have termed "ambient video works" as they are intended to be viewed in public spaces or private dwellings.

The sound track was composed using Ableton Live utilizing a Deepmind 12D synthesizer and Arturia soft synths.

  3. The title Ravenara refers to part to the scientific name of the "Travelers Palm" an impressive tree-like plant that is related to the Bird-Of-Paradise plant. While on a walk along a street in Cape Coral, Florida I came across this beautiful plant that was being blown by a rather stiff wind. The footage I shot has been compiled into a work that speaks to the motion, light and dynamic shapes resulting from the interaction of layered compositing. The accompanying soundtrack was created using digital synthesizers and composed in Ableton Live 9.

  4. This piece was filmed at Silver Islet on a patch of grasses that our former neighbors Dave and Sas Delgaty planted years ago. Since that time, Dave has passed and Sas rarely makes it back to their camp (cottage) now owned by their daughter Pam. I am dedicating this work to Dave and Sas who were terrific neighbors, full of life, humor and intelligence. One could not hope for better friends or neighbors.

The piece is part of the ongoing ambient video works that are intended to be played in public spaces or private residences as dynamic images. The soundtrack was composed using Ableton Live Suite 9.

  5. This work was filmed in Cozumel and Grand Cayman using a GoPro 4 camera. The sound track was created using Reaktor 6. It is part of the Ambient Video works that are intended to be viewed in public spaces as well as residences. The piece acts as a close examination of the coral reef environment yet is designed to move beyond describing to evoke more emotional reaction.
