The fourth in a series of clips from a year long documentation project of the Smoky Mountain National Park. These were taken on one of our biannual trips into the park via kayak/Fontana lake. The freshwater jellyfish were out (1:59) and so were the fall colors.
Our fifth overnight foray into the back country of Fontana was to a wilderness campsite near the now abandoned settlement of Proctor. We encountered some unexpected inhabitants.
Proctor is a ghost town located in Swain County, North Carolina. Located on (or under) Hazel Creek. Named after Moses Proctor, the first European inhabitant. The community was submerged with the creation of Fontana Lake and remains submerged unless lake levels are very low.
