Iceland's constantly changing topography and landscape is one of the main reasons to visit the North Atlantic island. And the country's Route 1 (aka "The Ring Road"), is one of the only ways for travelers to see the ever-changing landscape across the entire country. If travelers can carve out 10-days (or more) for the journey, The Ring Road is one of the most breathtaking road trips on the entire planet.
As you head north from the capital of Reykjavik, the landscape turns from green mountains to an icy tundra mixed with the geothermal energy of Lake Myvatn. The Ring Road then twists and undulates through the deep rivets of the Eastfjords before finding endless expanses of black volcanic rock covered with a soft, green moss.
