1. 'Darkened Sky' is the second single & music video from The Universal Thump's eponymous double album, released this month in the USA. (The first single, released in May 2012 was the wildly contrasting 'Flora' - a 1970s-inspired ode to an asexually reproducing komodo dragon, featuring stroller-dancing Brooklyn mothers).

The new video is comprised of contemplative, bird's eye footage of the planet in 1969-1971, captured on Super 8 film by lead singer, Greta Gertler's grandfather (whom she didn't know) on his travels around the world. Gertler writes about 'Darkened Sky':

"Audiences have often singled this song out at our live shows. It explores the stormy, euphoric beginnings of a relationship. The video consists mainly of landscapes that my grandfather shot on Super 8 film. Somehow his exploration of space, distance, separation and color gently resonate with and support the song."

    LYRICS

"Darkened Sky" - words and music by Greta Gertler

    You’re leaving me alone
After the day we spent together
    And I’ve been barely home
Transient, like the shift in weather
    Right now

    I want you
    Aware of the one truth
    That I’ll never know
    The view from your window

    The houses drip and doubt
    And all the trees look
    Pale and tired
I’m a puddle on the ground
I swam my way here from the island
    To you

    I want you
    Aware of the one truth
    That you’ll never know
    The view from my window

    I was looking up
    To the darkened sky
    The darkened sky

    Filling up a cloud
    As it opened up
    A torrent of surprise
