Jack Parrish, a student and everyman, wakes up in an elevator not knowing how he got there or why. His confusion is further compounded by the inexplicable surreality he faces when he tries to leave. Seemingly unable to despite an open door, he tries to communicate to the outside world his plight, but is rebuffed. Utterly alone, and with seemingly no help on the way to rescue him, he tries to reason his way out. With a backpack of a few assorted items, he attempts to extract himself from the enclosed space, but falls deeper into a fate in which the bizarre and mundane meld.
