Just a few weeks ago we boarded a plane to take a 9 hour journey to an unknown place in Puerto Rico. Once we landed in San Juan we began another dark 2 hour trek to the other side of the island. It wasn’t until morning that we discovered we were in the middle of paradise, and that this was going to be an epic adventure. Jared and Velisa brought their family and closest friends to a place that meant so much to them and reflected who they are. We were with Jared, Velisa and their peeps for 3 days of activities leading up to the ceremony and insane party that followed. This event was a perfect fit for us because their focus was not so much on floral arrangements and color schemes (however those things may be important) but it was so much more about creating an active experience, that their guests would NEVER forget. There is so much more of the experience that we wish we could have fit into the highlight film. When considering everything that we could include in the film, we decided it was best to stick to the basics. Jared and Velisa have such an authentic, true and raw love, that we wanted to focus mostly on that aspect of the entire experience. So sit back relax and enjoy the radness that is Jared and Velisa.

christine and ben are one of those couples that have a blast together in whatever they do. the morning of the wedding they wanted to go for a hike together (which is something they frequently do together) and decided to also pick up some senior's scooters for their grandparents to get around yosemite. the walk was rather reflective and romantic, but as soon as the scooters were revealed, pure mayhem broke out. you can see where ben's daughter, who was doing random interviews throughout the weekend, get's it from :)
being a same day edit, it is often tough to weave together so many different elements of the day into one cohesive piece. for christine and ben, i couldn't be happier with how everything just seemed to fit so perfectly and tie into each other.

shot with the steadicam zephyr (prototype), MKIV, and 7d. almost entirely shot on L-series primes. audio through on board rode video mics or wireless lavs into a zoom h4n. oh, and one more gear comment. i am absolutely in love with the image of the second last shot (the first kiss) shot with the MKIV and canon 50 f1.2.
a couple so full of emotion that even just putting together the same day edit had quenna in tears more than once. quenna and i put this together, but i think the story really told itself. never before have i seen so much of a reaction to the vows, so much so that the ring bearer, a rather young boy named chad, was in tears with his reaction to the same day edit. i didn't put that in as i had a hard time understanding whether he was crying in response to the vows or if it was more that he wanted to be outside on the bright sunny day. turns out he told veronica and neil shortly after the ceremony that he was crying because he was so happy for them.
they say that audio is half of what you see in a film. that couldn't be truer with a film like heidi and john's. take a moment to watch the first 15 seconds with your eyes closed. see how long it takes before you feel like you know them or care about them. personally, i last about three and i already want to see what happens.
though john isn't a writer by trade, he often writes heidi some pretty amazing letters. he wrote the reading for the ceremony, a very touching poem on love, and whenever heidi gets a gift - say christmas or a birthday- she is often more excited about the card then of the present itself.
john's father collects antiquities and it is something that john has always been interested in and something he has helped with throughout the years. for the wedding, heidi felt it would be the perfect gift to give john his own antiquities to start a collection of their own.
in the morning john was feeling - i don't want o say nervous, because he wasn't nervous about what was happening - but he wasn't certainly feeling everything that was happening that day in full force. at dinner the night before he told us how he feels that big life events, things like an engagement or a wedding, affect people so much because they are a chance when we can all just stop and appreciate or take in what we mean to somebody else. all day they were both definitely feeling it.
on the tech side, we had three from the sm team shooting with one more shooting BTS for an upcoming canon tutorial. shot mostly on MKIV's with our standard prime kit (14/24/35/50/135). the moving shots are the steadicam zephyr (setup and ready to go two min out of the shipping case :). everything else was all monopod as it happened.
