1. CREATED BY SHWOOD EYEWEAR AND JULIAN BIALOWAS, “THIS IS OREGON” IS A COLLABORATIVE ENDEAVOR TO INSPIRE OTHERS TO GET UP, GO OUT, AND START EXPLORING. ThisisOR.com

No matter where you live, adventure is much closer than you think. New experiences, unknown surroundings, and exciting opportunities are just waiting to be discovered. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of motivation and knowing where to start.

We’ve traveled to ten locations within a 90-minute drive from downtown Portland, Oregon to showcase the awe-inspiring landscapes that are waiting to be explored. From highway pull-offs to backcountry overnighters, and sun-baked coastlines to snowy mountainsides, there is something for everyone, everywhere.

At each location we captured a featured photograph and paired it with an interactive 360 degree panorama and Google map to help you find your way. Hopefully these destinations will light the fire for you to look beyond and explore the endless beauty waiting outside your door.

Finding Portland was produced, shot, and edited in 51 days during March and April at the invitation of TEDx Portland, where the video was unveiled to a sell out crowd of 650 and met with a standing ovation. Filmed in Portland and the Columbia Gorge, this time-lapse piece offers a new perspective to the City of Roses. From a Portland Timbers season opening soccer game, to the top of the Fremont Bridge, to an aerial shot of Oneonta Gorge, Finding Portland tells the story of a city and its many faces.

Comprised of 308, 829 photographs taken from over 50 unique locations, it took an average of 3.8 hours to make each second of this film. The intent of the project was to place our cameras in unique locations across the city, achieve significant ranges of dynamic camera motion, and pursue cutting edge time-lapse techniques.

Behind the scenes video and photos are posted at

  4. Felt Soul Media teamed up with Nick Waggoner and Yuki Miyazaki of Sweetgrass Productions in January 2012 to hunt the mythical Hokkaido Unicorn. The creature proved difficult to capture on film, so we just decided to do a little skiing.

Lots of love and high fives to Patagonia and the 5Point Film Festival for helping make this short possible.

  5. New Wilderness and Wild & Scenic Rivers for the Olympic Peninsula

Video shows the ancient forests, free-flowing rivers, stunning scenery & world-class outdoor recreation that would be protected for future generations under the Wild Olympics Wilderness & Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. It highlights the broad local support behind the Wild Olympics Campaign and the many conservation and economic benefits Senator Patty Murray & Congressman Norm Dicks' landmark legislation would grant the Olympic Peninsula and Puget Sound region.
